This blog serves as a resource center and archive for the creative residency What's Love Got To Do With It? lead by Ashley Neese at the Banff Centre, Alberta, January 5 - February 23, 2011. Residents have access to this blog and are free to post their ideas, inspirations, projects, and thoughts during the course of the program.
Residency Info:
This is a residency dedicated to the investigation, critique, and cultivation of love in contemporary art. Through a variety of group activities and individual creative projects, participants will reflect on what it means to love, and how as artists we can express our love in effective ways. By investigating artists using emotional vulnerability as a tool for communication, as well as the widespread phenomenon of generosity in recent practices, this residency will demonstrate the ways in which love is at the core of consciousness and art making.
Looking at art, life, and culture we will explore love in an everyday context. M. Scott Peck in his book The Road Less Traveled defines love as an action rather than a feeling. Participants will manifest love-as-action by enjoying a weekly home-cooked meal, sharing love songs via podcast, supporting each others’ artistic practices, and jointly producing a collection of love letters that will serve as an archive for the residency. What’s Love Got To Do With It? aims to build connection and community among residents in the hopes of transforming our experiences of love.
